Three injured in explosion at Johnson Controls
12th June 2024USA: Three people are reported to have been injured in an explosion at the Johnson Controls manufacturing plant in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania.
The explosion is said to have occurred at around 07.30 local time yesterday. Two of the injured were airlifted to hospital, one to a burns centre in Baltimore, Maryland, around 75 miles away. The third person was transported by ambulance to an acute care hospital in Hagerstown, Maryland.
The conditions of the injured have so far not been released and there is no report on damage to the facility.
Thirteen agencies were reported to have attended the scene, including fire and emergency medical services and the two air ambulances.
A brief initial statement from Johnson Controls said: “The safety and well-being of our employees is our top priority, and we are actively assessing the situation and working with local response teams. We will provide more information as appropriate as we learn more.”
The Waynesboro facility was one of the Johnson Controls plants named as recipients of a total of $33m in grants from the US Department of Energy at the end of last year to boost heat pump production. In 2017, Johnson Controls opened a $6.7m screw compressor testing laboratory at the site.
