Prices of R448A and R449A increase in Q3
9th December 2024EUROPE: Prices of R448A and R449A refrigerants, the lower GWP replacements for R404A, experienced price rises of 10% and 6%, respectively, in the third quarter of 2024.
While, in general, the latest EU price monitoring study reports a stable supply of refrigerants for most companies, limited regional availability or non-availability of R449A was mentioned by two French companies. Meanwhile, the purchase price of reclaimed R404A decreased by 1% on distributor and service company levels, compared to Q2.
The price of lower GWP alternative R32 was up by 2%, while the price of CO2 was stable and propane was down 1%.
The selling price of quota authorisations were down again, decreasing by 1% in Q3 compared to Q2. Average selling prices now stand at approximately €15.6/t CO2e.
Compared to 2014, prices of R134a are 3.5 (end user) to 10.7 (distributor) and R410A prices are 3.3 (end-user) to 11.3 (distributor) times higher. For comparison: on the world market, producer prices increased by a factor of 1.8 for R134a and 1.5 for R410A in the same period.
The Q3 report, compiled by independent consultants Öko-Recherche and CiTEPA in cooperation with the Polish foundation PROZON and the Spanish association CONAIF, was based on data supplied by 60 companies from all supply chain levels in 10 EU member states.
