Police bust scrap AC network
20th November 2024SPAIN: The Civil Guard says it has uncovered a network dedicated to illegal handling of refrigerant and waste electrical and electronic equipment.
A 44-year-old Romanian man, with a history of similar crimes, is said to have obtained waste air conditioning units from installers, who, instead of delivering them to authorised waste recyclers, sold them for €20 per unit.
The suspect broke up these devices without any safety measures in the yard of his home in in Torrevieja in southeastern Alicante province, on the Costa Blanca. He subsequently sold the metal parts to scrap dealers.
The investigation also led to the detection of four installers involved, three of whom were carrying out the activity illegally.
