Poland seizes 115 tonnes of F-gas
21st November 2024POLAND: At least 115 tonnes of F-gas are said to have been seized in Poland as part of a European crackdown on the illegal F-gas trade.
Alongside the recent EU joint operation JCO Khione 2024, officers from Poland’s revenue administration KAS seized gas tanks and empty tanks, charging equipment, accounting documents and cars.
Nine people were detained and charged with fiscal crimes consisting of removing customs security and removing goods from supervision and transporting waste or substances endangering human life or health.
The Ministry of Finance and the KAS Analysis Centre in Katowice were also involved in the activities. Actions were carried out inside Poland and at border crossings. Vehicles were checked in detail at border crossings, also using portable detectors to examine the composition of gases, which allowed such transports to be stopped at the state border.
SCS officers carried out operations in the Podkarpackie, Małopolskie, Świętokrzyskie, Lublin and Mazovian provinces. The operations in Mazovia were supported by OLAF inspectors and inspectors from the Provincial Environmental Protection Inspectorate in Warsaw.
Refrigerant imported from outside the EU was reloaded, mixed or removed from customs supervision to avoid taxes and other environmental fees.
