Performance testing large axial fans

BELGIUM: Eurovent has released a new recommendation on the performance tests of very large axial fans in the context of Ecodesign requirements.

Created in a joint effort by Eurovent and AMCA Europe, this first edition of the Eurovent/AMCA Recommendation 1/14 provides an explanation of the problem of testing large axial fans according to the standards. It  gives lectures analysis about the subject, and also provides a solution suggestion for the problem as a code of good practice.

While the Ecodesign regulation for fans specifies minimum efficiency levels for fans with an electrical input power ranging from 125W to 500kW, the method for determining efficiency is not described in the regulation.

“Currently, there are no internationally recognised standards for performance measurement of very large axial fans,” explained Uwe Sigloch, chairperson of the Eurovent’s fan technology product group.

“To address this, Eurovent has formulated a recommendation for performance measurement of very large fans. This recommendation leads to reproducible values and establishes a level playing field for all manufacturers placing such kind of fans on the European market.”

The document can be downloaded free of charge from the Eurovent website.
