New Zealand ratifies Kigali

NEW ZEALAND: Almost two years after its Pacific neighbour Australia, New Zealand has become the 85th nation to sign the Kigali Amendment to phase down HFC refrigerants.

The Kigali Amendment was adopted by 197 countries in 2016. Under the agreement, countries commit to cut the production and consumption of HFCs by more than 80% over the next 30 years.

New Zealand has already implemented a law to reflect the Kigali Amendment. After 31 December 2019, a permit will be required to import or export bulk HFCs.
