Mexichem Fluor changes name to Koura

MEXICO: Refrigerant manufacturer and supplier Mexichem Fluor has changed its brand name to Koura, in a move which sees its group company Mexichem adopting the name Orbia Advance Corporation.

Koura is said to have has its origins in the word ‘courage’, sometimes spelled kouraj, an Haitian-Creole word.

“We are excited to adopt a new name that reflects our identity as a company that takes a courageous approach to the safety and health of our people and the environments and communities where we operate, to innovation and to advancing life around the world,” said commercial director Sarah Hughes in a letter to customers

Meanwhile, Mexichem says the name change to Orbia is the latest milestone in what it calls its “human-centered transformation” in its “commitment to purpose: to advance life around the world”.

Further, it says: “This reflects a year-long process to transform the company into a future-fit, human-centered organization, while elevating the work its five global business groups are doing to address the challenges that define how people live and thrive today and in the future.”

The word Orbia is described as a combination of the Latin word for spherical globe, Orb, and Bia, the personification of force in Greek mythology.
