Likely source of fatal LD outbreak located
5th August 2024AUSTRALIA: Health officials in Melbourne may have located the source of a legionnaires’ disease outbreak that has claimed two lives.
According to Victorian chief health officer Dr Clare Looker, a cooling tower in the Laverton North suburb of the city has returned a positive result for legionella.
There have been 78 confirmed and 10 suspected cases notified since 26 July, mostly in adults aged over 40 years. Most cases have required hospitalisation, with multiple admissions to intensive care.
