LG to build $300m hq in New Jersey
18th November 2013USA: LG Electronics has started construction of a new $300m North American headquarters in New Jersey, despite opposition from conservation groups.
The new 45,500m2 building on a 27 acre plot in Englewood Cliffs will increase LG’s employment in the area from 500 today to 1,200 in 2017 and 1,600 by 2020 at the new corporate campus.
The new headquarters will also be a showcase for environmentally-friendly design as it seeks to achieve LEED Platinum certification. LG is also investing more than $2m to create a Science & Environmental Learning Centre where local school children will be able to learn about technology and sustainable living.
Conservation groups launched an appeal against the building plans saying they want to stop the company from marring the view of the Palisades, a group of steep cliffs above the western shore of the Hudson.
