Legionnaires’ outbreak claims 2 lives
17th September 2014SPAIN: Another case of legionnaires’ disease was confirmed yesterday in an outbreak in Sabadell, near Barcelona, which has claimed two lives.
A cooling tower is suspected of being the source of the outbreak which was first confirmed on Monday and has so far affected 23 people. Of those affected, 20 are from Sabadell, one from Cerdanyola del Vallès and two from Barbera del Valles, both towns being close to Sabadell.
The secretary of health for the Government of Catalonia, Antoni Mateu, confirmed that 38 cooling towers in the area had been cleaned and treated, with samples taken. He revealed that the number of cases led authorities to suspect that the origin of the outbreak may be a cooling tower.
