Koura launches R1234yf car AC drop-in
25th September 2024UK: Koura has announced the UK and European launch of its R444A refrigerant, as a direct replacement for R1234yf in automotive aftermarket applications.
Branded Klea Edge 444A, the new refrigerant is being promoted as a more economical alternative to R1234yf, while at the same time delivering increased vehicle performance.
According to Koura, third-party lab tests have confirmed that R444A pulls down cabin temperature up to four minutes faster than yf. In addition, its higher energy efficiency can enable internal combustion engine vehicles to see improved fuel economy, it is claimed, while electric vehicles may experience extended range.
A blend of R1234ze(E), R32 and R152a (83%/12%/5%), R444A has a GWP of 92 under AR4.
The new refrigerant is said to be compatible with R1234yf and its components and, as a direct replacement, service centres can use the same equipment, gauges and tools. It has been approved by AC charge station manufacturer TEXA and other manufacturer approvals are said to be in progress.
“With increasing environmental regulations in the EU and UK for refrigerants, we’re committed to leading the industry with solutions that lower the environmental impact significantly without compromising on performance,” said Michael Mukai, Orbia Fluor & Energy Materials’ global market management director, refrigerants.
