USA: Johnson Controls has acquired M&M Carnot, a leading US manufacturer of industrial CO2 refrigeration equipment and controls.
Based in Annapolis, Maryland and in Trois Rivières, Quebec, Canada, M&M Carnot is one of North America’s largest providers of transcritical CO₂ solutions, including heat pumps and tailored solutions for data centres. Johnson Controls says the deal will add to its growing portfolio of industrial CO2 equipment.
M&M Carnot was formed in 2019 when Maryland-based M&M Refrigeration acquired the Canadian CO2 pioneer Carnot Refrigeration. Based in Trois-Rivières, Québec, Carnot pioneered the use of CO2 transcritical refrigeration in North America for commercial and industrial applications. M&M Refrigeration was originally founded in 1969 and Carnot in 2008. In 2022, M&M Carnot acquired US refrigeration energy management control systems manufacturer Logix Controls.
“It’s an exciting time in our industry as we continuously seek new opportunities to accelerate the deployment and adoption of safe and sustainable solutions and services,” said Claude Allain, president, Johnson Controls HVAC/R and data centres. “M&M Carnot is well-positioned in its ability to deliver ultra-sustainable industrial refrigeration solutions and will allow us to better serve our growing customer base in this vertical.”
