Exkal plans €25m expansion

SPAIN: Commercial refrigeration cabinet manufacturer Exkal is to invest €25m in an expansion of its facility in Marcilla, Navarra, northern Spain.

The investment will double the size of the current factory, creating new production lines and increasing capacity. The plans also include the purchase of state-of-the-art Industry 4.0 robotic machinery as Exkal looks to develop new products oriented to new markets. 500 new jobs are expected to be created.

Work on the new plant is expected to begin this year, with completion scheduled for the end of 2019.

Exkal claims to be Spain’s leading manufacturer of refrigeration systems and a key supplier to the refrigeration and retail sectors in Europe and worldwide with a wide range of remote and plug-in cabinets.

The investment will also include an expansion of the company’s renewable energy production. Energy consumption at the facility is currently supplemented by a 11,270kWp solar PV array on the factory roof. Earlier this year, the company added two li-ion energy storage systems to reduce peak energy demand.
