EuroShop attendance down 14%

GERMANY: The organiser of EuroShop is reported to be delighted with the event despite a drop of around 14% in visitor attendance.

Dubbed the world’s no 1 retail trade fair, EuroShop 2023 drew to a close today having welcomed more than 81,000 trade visitors during its five-day run in Düsseldorf. This figure, a reduction on the 94,000 visitors in 2020, was also nearly 30% down on the record attendance of 2017.

While the refrigeration sector was far larger than the previous event in 2020 – one of the last industry exhibitions before the covid lockdowns – overall this year’s event attracted 1,830 exhibitors which was significantly down on the 2,300 exhibitors in 2020.

Despite this, Messe Düsseldorf MD Erhard Wienkamp professed to be “highly satisfied” with the results of the trade fair in his post-event comments. “Especially in view of the current challenges in retail, we are delighted that EuroShop once again met its remit as the world’s leading trade fair offering guidance and orientation,” he said.

Wienkamp also praised the high level of internationality and an increase in the number of visitors with decision-making authority.

The organiser reported that 68% of this year’s audience came from outside Germany. An increase in the number of visitors from Southeast Asia, Africa and North America was seen as particularly positive.

The next EuroShop will be held in Düsseldorf from 22 to 26 February 2026.
