European refrigerant price report now online
11th September 2024EUROPE: The European Commission is to publish its quarterly refrigerant price monitoring report online following requests from the Cooling Post.
Since 2016, the German environmental research company Öko-Recherche has been providing data on HFC prices at the request of the European Commission as a means to monitor the effect of the F-gas phase down.
The data has been accumulated with the support of a number of European trade associations and gathered from companies at all levels of the refrigerant supply chain.
Although distribution of the quarterly report was limited to those associations and companies involved in its compilation, the Cooling Post has, on occasions, managed to “acquire” these reports and publish their content.
However, this was not always possible, so the Cooling Post approached DG CLIMA, the Commission’s climate action directorate, seeking authorised official access to these reports.
After initially being refused on the basis that the reports were “not public documents”, the Cooling Post argued that this could not be the case as we knew they were being shared with a number of European trade associations and all their members.
We argued that the refrigerant pricing was of interest to a large number of our readers but many were denied access because they were not members of one or more of these associations. We described the situation as hugely unfair and discriminatory.
DG CLIMA has now agreed. The latest figures can be found online here.
