Dutch intercept 10 tonnes of illegal R404A
2nd October 2020NETHERLANDS: Authorities in the Netherlands have intercepted a lorry in Eindhoven carrying over 10 tonnes of quota-busting R404A.
The cargo, comprising 1,034 10kg cylinders of R404A, originated from Turkey, was presented to customs in Eindhoven for customs clearance. It was destined for a “refrigerants trader” in Belgium.
The importer lacked a European registration and was not a quota holder. The shipment has been seized and the costs for storage, transport and processing will be charged to the importer. In addition, the lorry driver was not in possession of the mandatory papers such as the dangerous goods transport document and an ADR certificate. The truck was loaded incorrectly and the gas bottles were incorrectly labeled.
The interception by the Dutch Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT), the country’s body responsible for enforcement of the F-gas regulations, was the result of intensive cooperation between customs, Rijkswaterstaat (the Dutch public works and water management directorate) and the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF).
