Mitsubishi Electric’s H2i MXZ heat pump

USA: Products from international suppliers including Danfoss, Mitsubishi Electric and Sporlan are amongst a number of products to be honoured at this month’s AHR Expo in Chicago.

The AHR Expo Innovation Awards represent the US industry’s best and brightest technology at the annual international exhibition taking place from January 26-28 at McCormick Place, Chicago.

Representing the major sectors of the hvacr marketplace, the winning entries were selected in 10 categories (building automation, cooling, green building, heating, indoor air quality, plumbing, refrigeration, software, tools & instruments, and ventilation) as the most innovative new products among the thousands to be displayed. The winning products were selected from among numerous entries by a panel of judges consisting of ASHRAE members who evaluated the products based on innovation, application, value to the user and market impact.

Danfoss’ Turbocor compressor – no stranger to awards – was the winner in the Green Building category with its VTT Series compressors. Mitsubishi Electric US took the heating category with its H2i MXZ Multi-zone heat pump system, while Sporlan Parker Hannifin won the Tools & Instruments category with its wireless SMART Service temperature clamps and sensors.

Amongst the other winners were KeepRite Refrigeration/National Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Canada Corp for the Limitrol+ head pressure control. It won the Refrigeration category for its ability to combine variable speed EC motor technology, condenser portioning and various systems modifications to provide the ultimate in performance and control. It is said to function in much colder ambients where previous systems have proven ineffective.

Software: Fluke Corporation, Fluke Connect SmartPhone app
Ventilation: Coolerado Corporation, ERV50 energy recovery ventilator and super cooling system

The annual competition is sponsored by ASHRAE, AHRI and the AHR Expo. The awards will be presented at the show on Tuesday, January 27, at which time an overall winner will also be announced.

The $16,400 collected from the Innovation Award entry fees is to be donated to the Metropolitan Family Services (MFS), an organization that provides a variety of social services for Chicago-area families in need.

This year’s AHR Expo will include 465,000ft2 of exhibits from 2,000 companies representing every segment of the hvacr industry. Last year’s show in New York attracted a record 42,887 visitors of which around 20% were from outside the US.
