Daikin warns of coronavirus phone scams
25th April 2020JAPAN: Daikin has issued a warning to Japanese consumers of fraudsters offering air conditioners capable of eradicating the coronavirus.
The Japanese air conditioning manufacturer has received reports of increasing numbers of scam phone calls claiming to be from Daikin “agents or distributors” recommending replacement and maintenance of air conditioners to prevent new coronavirus infections.
Some claim that Daikin has developed an air conditioner refrigerant that disinfects coronaviruses, others that Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry is offering free air conditioning replacements.
“We do not outsource telephone sales to such distributors,” Daikin says in its statement, warning consumers to be careful of these suspicious phone calls.
