Signing the joint research agreement: Daikin executive vice president Yuji Yoneda (left) and Tokyo Institute of Technology president Kazuya Masu

JAPAN: Daikin Industries has partnered with the National University Corporation Tokyo Institute of Technology to establish a research centre to advance core technologies in air conditioners.

The two organisations have been conducting joint research on improving the motors used in large-scale air conditioners for many years. This new collaborative research centre will apply Tokyo Institute of Technology’s academic knowledge and research resources related to compressors, motors, and inverters.

Improving the energy efficiency of the air conditioning compressor, the motors and inverters that operate them efficiently, is seen as key to achieving carbon neutrality in 2050.
