Bangladesh seizes €40m of “substandard” refrigerant
22nd June 2024BANGLADESH: Customs officials in the port of Chittagong are said to have intercepted Chinese shipments of “substandard” refrigerant valued at up to €40m.
According to the Daily Star, numerous importers received shipments of refrigerant by providing false declarations.
The 10 shipments involved a total of 62,000 cylinders. The gas was reported to be of “extremely low quality” and manufactured by a “fraudulent company”.
The cylinders are marked as containing a range of gases, including R22, R134A, R404A, R407A, and R32, but the import documents, packaging list and bill of entry do not explicitly mention the names.
Customs have reportedly temporarily halted the clearance of approximately 40 further consignments.
