Alfa Laval to close Dutch factory
5th November 2014SWEDEN: Alfa Laval is to close its heat exchanger factory in the Netherlands and concentrate manufacturing at its sites in Italy, Poland and Finland.
The Groningen factory was acquired by Alfa Laval when it purchased the Dutch manufacturer Helpman in 2007. Its closure brings to an end 90 years of manufacturing in the city.
Groningen produces both Helpman and Alfa Laval branded air heat exchangers and also provides business development and market support, R&D and a technical office.
The intention is to close the site by September 2015 with 90 employees affected. The move is expected to save around €32m/ year.
“To remain competitive in Europe, we need to restructure our manufacturing of air heat exchangers”, commented Lars Renström, president and CEO of the Alfa Laval Group.
