Aira acquires German contractor
17th October 2023SWEDEN/GERMANY: Aira, the Swedish heat pump start-up, has acquired German plumbing, heating and air conditioning contractor Garant Wärmesysteme.
Aira was launched in June by Stockholm-based investment group Vargas, as a direct-to-consumer company offering heat pumps on a monthly subscription.
Having launched in Italy and the UK, it commenced operations in Germany in September with the opening of a training academy in Berlin.
The acquisition of Garant Wärmesysteme marks Aira’s expansion outside of the Berlin-Brandenburg region to Saxony and Bavaria in Germany.
A family-owned business, Garant Wärmesysteme was founded in Glauchau in 2004, adding a second location in Munich in 2010. It has around 80 employees.
Aira has set itself the task of installing heat pumps in five million households across Europe over the next 10 years – one million of which are in Germany. It sees Garant’s additional expertise in installing and planning solar systems as adding another dimension to its portfolio.
Commenting on the acquisition, Leonhard von Harrach, CEO of Aira Germany, said: “To accelerate the rapid growth of the business, we will build a new Aira Academy that will train hundreds of clean energy experts. What better place to start than here in Glauchau -Zwickau, known as a hub for engineering talent. Aira is now strategically positioned to cater to both the northern and south-eastern regions of Germany.”
