A-Gas authorised as R448A/R449A reclaimer

UK: A-Gas has been authorised by Chemours as a reclaimer of the lower GWP HFC/HFO blend refrigerants R448A and R449A in the UK and Europe.

The two refrigerants were developed and patented by Chemours and Honeywell as replacements for R404A and R507 in existing equipment. Both are blends of four refrigerants – R32, R125, R134a and R1234yf in slightly different proportions with R448A also containing a small amount (7%) of R1234ze(E).

R448A was developed marketed by Honeywell and has a GWP of 1273, while Chemours’ R449A has a GWP of 1397.

In November, the rival manufacturers, who cross license the two gases, announced a pilot scheme to authorise qualified companies to carry out recycling and reclamation of their patented refrigerants.

Chemours Thermal and Specialised Solutions president Joe Martinko said, “Working with A-Gas enables the safe recovery, reclaim, and reuse of R448A and R449A, maximising resource efficiency, reducing waste, and lowering emissions.”

A-Gas is a world leader in the supply and lifecycle management of refrigerants and associated products and services, offering a complete solution from its extensive fleet of dedicated recovery cylinders to its Rapid Recovery on-site refrigerant recovery services.
