UK F-gas must not sacrifice efficiency and safety
11th April 2024UK: As the UK awaits a revision of the F-gas regulation, industry representatives have been stressing that any changes should not be at the expense of energy efficiency or safety.
Speaking at today’s annual FETA lunch in London, Mark Hughes, business development manager at Chemours, thanked guest Russell Patten, EPEE director general, for his negotiating efforts with the recently ratified European F-gas regulation.
“You might have noticed that the UK has yet to publish its own consultation,” said Hughes, who, as past chair of FETA, was standing in for unavailable current chair Alan Macklin. “FETA has not stood by and has been heavily involved in political advocacy to put F-gas firmly on MPs’ agendas to ensure the proposed regulation is not at the expense of the much bigger price of energy efficiency.
“Our core message has been that our industry buys into where we need to be on net zero and climate change but we must be pragmatic to ensure we do actually achieve the targets.
“Above all, this needs to be done safely,” he added, stressing that training was essential in the move to the widespread use of high flammability refrigerants.
