Sam Gills is Star performer
7th December 2017UK: Sam Gills, an apprentice with Star Refrigeration’s Operations Group, has been named ACR Trainee of the Year.
Sam, from Sunderland, was up against nine other finalists at today’s presentation lunch at the Belfry in Sutton Coldfield. Ethan Garside of Allcool (NW) Ltd was named runner up and Charlie Roper of JD Cooling was highly commended.
Speaking before the event, Star Operations training manager Dave Bartlett said Sam had impressed his course provider and individual customers, as well as site managers on a number of contracts. “Tomorrow’s engineers don’t often get recognised but Sam has proved time and time again that he is a hardworking trainee engineer with a promising career ahead of him,” he said.
Sam is currently halfway through his four year apprenticeship with Star Refrigeration, recently completing his BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Engineering, with a Double Grade Distinction attaining 11 Distinctions in 11 topics.
The annual ACR Trainee of the Year Award, a not-for-profit event, has invested over £32,000 into training since its inception. The money raised goes back into buying new equipment with the training companies, colleges and training centres.
