UK: Blackpool-based Pure Thermal has been appointed UK and Ireland distributor of the IceBat cold thermal energy storage systems from French company Fafco.
Founded in 1981 and based in Chevigny-Saint-Sauveur on the outskirts of Dijon, Fafco currently boasts over 1,400 IceBat system installations across Europe, with a total installed capacity of over 3.6GWh.
IceBat employs phase-change technology to benefit from low-cost off-peak electricity to create and store cooling energy. It is said to provide a fast-reacting and highly flexible alternative to conventional electrical battery storage.
The IceBat system works with existing chillers and can be retrofitted into existing applications or integrated into new projects.
IceBat uses the latent heat of ice-water solidification to store and accumulate the cold stored energy. Charging and discharging can be modulated from 10kWh to 1000kWh.
Commenting on the new deal with Fafco, Garry Broadbent of Pure Thermal said “We are really pleased to now be appointed as their UK partner as we see significant potential for cold thermal energy storage.
“We’re seeing increasing requirements for load shifting and also capacity management within cooling applications.”
The Fafco and Pure Thermal are organising a technical briefing on the IceBat technology. Further details from [email protected].
