IoR launches online Masterclasses
21st January 2024UK: The Institute of Refrigeration (IoR) is launching a series of free-to-access monthly Masterclass webinars, aimed at supplementing teaching in training centres for those entering the industry.
Starting on 25 January, the sessions will cover topics related to the apprenticeship standard, end point exam content and also good practice and efficiency.
The masterclasses will be led by industry experts, providing participants with a valuable link to different aspects of the sector, and the first six classes being scheduled will cover a range of subjects from heat pumps and pressure enthalpy through efficiency optimisation and insulation.
Announcing the launch of the masterclass series, IoR president Graeme Fox FInstR said: “The IoR is keen to do more to support colleges and provide additional resources for anyone who wants to learn more about the basics of RACHP.
“Encouraging high standards in those new to the industry and supporting delivery of training programmes is one of the top priority areas our members have asked the IoR to focus on, and the masterclasses along with free access to IoR publications for students and a new section of the FantasticFridges.com website for 16-21-year-olds are all part of the new resources coming out this year to achieve this.”
The programme of topics will include:
What are heat pumps? An overview of heat pump types
How heat pumps work with the water cycle
Understanding pressure enthalpy,
Case study: servicing a domestic heat pump
Energy optimisation of refrigeration systems
COP, System lift and condenser delta T
Principles of operation condensers and dry air coolers
Siting of condensers and dry air coolers and issue of short cycling
Correct pipework condenser flooding and locking
Recordings of each class will be added to the IOR website at www.ior.org.uk/masterclasses and will build up into a valuable teaching and revision resource.
The range of offerings to support education and training available from the IOR will be explained in the webinar Tackling Skills Shortages on 7 February.
