Trane recalls over 100,000 splits

Trane AC 800USA: Trane has recalled over 100,000 split air conditioning units in the USA over fears of a potential shock hazard.

The recall involves 37 models of Trane’s XB300 and American Standard brand Silver SI split system outdoor condensing units. The models were sold through Trane and American Standard independent distributors and dealers in the US between February 2010 and March 2014 for between $890 and $1,000.

The hazard involves ground screws which do not have the two threads required to provide sufficient grounding.

Consumers have been advised to immediately turn off the cooling unit via the main breaker switch and check the model information. Consumers with recalled air conditioning systems should contact Trane or their installer or service dealer for instructions on scheduling a free inspection and repair.
